Nameless Offences: Homosexual Desire in the 19th Century
H.G. Cocks
A Princess of Mars (Barsoom, #1) - Edgar Rice Burroughs While I respect the place this novel has in early science fiction, and the influence it had on some of the later greats of science fiction, and while I understand that all fiction is a product of the time and the place it's written, I will always find it difficult to respect speculative works in which it was easier to imagine aliens on Mars than women being treated as equals. As well, Mary Sue Carter really got to be a bit MUCH.
